Nokia Lumia Your Wish is My App Season 2 : My 1st IndiBlogger Meet at Delhi

Last Friday on 24th January,I had the opportunity of attending the "Nokia Lumia Your Wish is My App Season 2" meet for bloggers organised by IndiBlogger. It was my first IndiBlogger meet after joining the awesome IB community in December.

First let me tell you what this blog post is all about."Nokia Lumia Your Wish is My App" is a name of app reality TV show which got very popular in 2012 so Nokia has again come with season 2 of the show in association with NDTV. In this show, consumers will have the opportunity to submit mobile application ideas that have the potential to be developed into successful apps for the Windows Phone Store and stand a chance to become a millionaire.

This time the company will take in entries from all over the world and fly in the shortlisted contestants to India. The app ideas will be judged by a panel of judges including Rajiv Makhni, NDTV Managing Editor & Tech Guru, Vishal Gondal,CEO of IndiaGames,Entrepreneur and angel investor, Sanjeev Bickhchandani, Founder and Executive VP, naukri.com, Vikas Khanna, New York based Michelin Starred Celebrity Chef and Kalki Koechlin, Bollywood actress and Youth Icon.

Now you have the idea about the show.Good for us that Nokia started the season with bloggers. The meet was held in The Oberoi hotel in New Delhi.I reached the venue just at the time 6PM as there was no college that day plus I live in Delhi. As soon as I entered the hotel,I was stunned by interior of the hotel. There were around 50 bloggers already there waiting outside the gathering hall. There I met Anoop Yadav from LexEngine and we instantly became friends.

Then we made a queue and entered in a group of five as told by the IB organisers. As we passed the gate,we had to enter our IndiBlogger email id in the laptop and we were given a notebook and a pen to give our app ideas. The way to the gathering hall was first through the dinner hall. There I and Anoop met Gaurab from ProcessingTheLife. Now we were 3 friends attending our first IndiBlogger meet ever.We got refreshment there. There was alcohol too.I heard a guy who was drinking and saying,"Now my ideas will flow smoothly due to the scotch". Just besides the entrance of the gathering hall, there was a exhibition of 4 Nokia Lumia smartphones-Nokia Lumia 525, Lumia 1020, Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520 where people from Nokia were telling the bloggers about the phones and let them hands-on the phones.

We three-I,Anoop and Gaurab- sat in third row from the stage and started writing our ideas. The screen behind the stage was in two parts - one was showing  the tweets for the hashtag #YWMA and other was showing the entry time of the bloggers like this :"Tarun Singh walked in 5 minutes ago". There were around more than 300 bloggers.

The meet started with the IndiBlogger signature anthem "Hurr Hurr" by Anoop Zombie of IndiTeam and bloggers. It was followed by "Welcome by Nokia" by Mr P. Balaji, MD of Nokia India. He showed a slideshow presentation about how the apps are literally governing our lives, especially in a country like India where the access to the Internet is primarily from the phone. He said :“Our youth are very aspirational and seeking to consume, converse and create,” he added, underlining the main reason for the growing popularity of the apps. “Now, about 1.6 billion apps are downloaded a year and that number is expected to grow up to 9 billion in 2016 and it is changing our behaviours.” The company expects to rake in over 50,000 idea this time.

During this time,IndiTeam collected our app ideas page.In meanwhile, audience cheered with the arrival of swashbuckling hosts Vikas Khanna, Rajiv Makhni and Vishal Gondal. Rajiv Makhni showed a video compilation of the previous season of the TV show. There was a magic show by Karan Singh where he found out the exact card picked by the 3 hosts without seeing it first.

Then started the actual aim of the meet- asking app ideas from blogger. There were different criteria to choose different bloggers to come on stage every time. Each blogger was given some gifts and prizes by Nokia.Unfortunately I did not win a single gift or prize.

Examples of different criteria by hosts:
1) Youngest blogger in the meet - There was a 6 years old cute girl.
2) Oldest blogger in the meet
3) First blogger to tweet the answer asked by hosts with hashtag #YWMA
4)Random picking of app ideas paper submitted by bloggers
5) Hosts themselves selecting few person to come on stage

The six years old girl suggested a game named "Subway Game" just like Subway surfers which Rajiv easily interpreted to be a game where the player run throughout the game with pizzas in hands and trying to escape from Police. The same girl came second time with an app idea where app will be used to create awareness about organ donation amongst the app users.I liked this idea the most in the meet. She was given a Nokia Lumia 1520 for this app idea.

There was an idea of an app named "Loo Locator" suggested by a young girl. She wrote in the paper: "Men can go anywhere to loo but women can't so we need this app". It was a good idea too.But one thing want to say that girl is not all men are comfortable going anywhere so there is no harm of using this app by men also :)

There was a competition where audience were made judges and Vikas and Vishal were participants.Vikas won that competition.

There was another competition in which Vikas and Vishal had to choose 5 persons from the audience and come up with an app idea and performing it on stage. But this resulted in around 20 partcipants in both groups and this round was also won by Vikas perhaps due to strictness of Vishal in the show :)

Vikas also told how to pronounce the name of Kalki Koechlin. He said that Koechlin is pronounced as "Cakela" which is sure a must have for general knowledge.

When the show ended, bloggers started taking pics of themselves and their friends with the hosts.Fortunately Gaurab had brought his camera and we 3-I,Anoop and Gaurab took pics with the awesome hosts of the night -Vikas Khanna, Rajiv Makhni and Vishal Gondal. Gaurab has also written a post on his blog about this meet too and uploaded his pic with Vikas Khanna. He has not yet sent me my pics so I can't post them here.

Then we moved out of the hall and came to dinner hall. The food was awesome. There were drinks too but since I don't drink,I skipped it and just focused on juices, cakes and ice creams.

After dinner,we were given one t-shirt with IndiBlogger and Nokia written over it.Then I headed to IndiBus and went home.

In the end,I will like to thank Nokia and IndiBlogger for the awesome opportunity to bloggers like me.

My App Idea : Well the app suggested by me in the meet was about an app named "Professor Alert" which will track the professor whenever he comes around a certain perimeter of the college or even class. This will help college going students to easily keep track of professors whether they are in college or not. This will help students to attend the class as soon as professors enter the class. For example, yesterday I was in the college library in the 4th period for finding some books.4th period was free as the professor of that subject was out of town. But what was disappointing was that another professor whose period was 5th,took the class in that period. That prevented from me taking that class plus one attendance short which can be a disaster in this semester as this semester will end in April due to Lok Sabha elections.Hope Nokia hears this and the voice of youths who are the biggest consumers of their awesome Lumia smartphones.

You Were Not There in the Meet? : You don't have to be sad that you are not an IndiBlogger or you were not in Delhi or you live in another city.Because you can still share your idea with Nokia and not only featured on their NDTV show, you can also get to be a millionaire !

30 shortlisted apps will be showcased in the nine-episode reality TV show which will be aired on NDTV Prime starting mid-March.Out of these 30 apps,1 app is exclusively reserved for an idea by an IndiBlogger given at the meet. You can stand a chance to win the grand prize of Rs 10 lakhs (1 million). Two runners-up will be awarded Rs 5 lakhs and Rs 2 lakhs each and 3 lucky winners will stand a chance to win the Nokia Lumia 1520.

Ideas can be submitted by text, phone call, social media and through live events held at universities and colleges in the country. The top 4000 app ideas will be made available to developers to turn into real life apps. In addition, the top ideas will receive help from Nokia in the form of technical and design support.

How to Submit Your App Idea?: You can submit your app idea to Nokia using the following :
1) SMS – Send <YWMA> <YOUR IDEA> to 55555.
2) Go to the Nokia India Facebook page, click on the YWMA tab, and enter your idea.
